No Child Left Behind – Additional Learning Needs and Educational Tribunal Act

‘The Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal (Wales) Act 2018  makes provision for a new statutory framework for supporting children and young people with additional learning needs (ALN).’ Welsh Government May 2018

How well does your school understand how these important changes impact on the way we work to support children and young people? What does the Act say? Most importantly, in practical terms, how do we successfully implement the requirements of the Act so that all learners are nurtured with the support they are entitled to? This one-day course will outline key information for school leaders and teachers, with recommendations that can be implemented immediately.

Course participants will: 

• Consider the requirements of the Act and understand how they transfer to practice.
• Become familiar with the school’s obligations and those of the local authority.
• Learn about best practice for preparation, content, form, review and revision of Individual Development Plans (IDPs) and view examples.
• Explore ways to increase the participation of children and young people in creating and implementing IDPs.
• Identify ways to raise concerns in school and the stages in the rights to appeal to the Education Tribunal.
• Develop ways to work in partnership so that each IDP is clearly outlines the responsibilities of the agencies involved.
