Moving on up! – Transition

Smooth transitions between different phases of education are always important. It is critical that when children move from one part of the school to another, or from one school to another, they do not experience a break in their education, or mark time.

This course reflects on the current nature of transition arrangements and explores what else might be possible.

Course participants will:

• Reflect on the key changes in practice and pedagogy within the Curriculum for Wales 2022.
• Explore the practical and emotional implications for children transferring to a new school or setting.
• Consider different ways of information sharing within and between schools and settings.
• Consider the changing role of the adult within the context of the new curriculum and how this might impact on future transition arrangements.
• Plan appropriate learning transitions that are a true reflection of a child’s next step.
• Find ways of giving more ownership for transition events/arrangements to the children and young people involved.

Target Audience: Transition Co-ordinators from schools within the same cluster.

This course can be delivered in one of the cluster schools.
