A Shift in Pedagogy – An exploration of the Pedagogical Principles

Globally, there is a shift in what are deemed to be the important elements of learning. The Pedagogical Principles outlined in Successful Futures (2015) identify the essential elements of 21st Century learning that define the quality and the pedagogical approach central to Curriculum for Wales, 2022.

During this course will we explore how the vision for learning outlined in Curriculum for Wales is underpinned by these key principles.  This is an excellent starting point for reflecting on and developing your practice.

Course participants will:

  • Consider how the Pedagogical Principles currently translate to practice.
  • Focus on the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of teaching, not just the ‘what’.
  • Explore what a rich task entails (what it is and is not) and how these create the rich contexts for learning.
  • Reflect of the stages of learning and how and where the Pedagogical Principles align.
  • Identify next steps for the school in preparing for CfW 2022.

During her career, Glenda has held posts as a teacher, a Headteacher and was the inaugural Head of Centre of Wales’ largest children’s centre; the Ely and Caerau Children’s Centre.
