Ban Har returns in June 2025 for a one day Mathematics Leadership Day and for the two day introductory course on the CPA Approach.
Welsh Government have recognised that Curriculum For Wales is different and as a consequence delivery around learning needs a shift in mindset. Banhar will give course participants an overview of what CfW means, what it looks like in developing mathematical conceptual understanding over time (progression of learning) and exploring the 5 mathematical proficiencies of conceptual understanding, communication using symbols, fluency, logical reasoning and strategic competence in depth.

Maths Curriculum Leadership Day. – Curriculum For Wales + Singapore Maths
What does the CfW framework mean to you as a school and how does this guide practice in the teaching and learning of Maths? Ban Har will look at the CfW documentation, explore what this actually means in idealogical thinking but more importantly, what this could like in practice. Ban har will give examples of how Singapore turned its fortunes around in the teaching and learning of Maths to be the world leader it is today.
Singapore’s educational story is both impressive and inspiring. As the highest-ranking country for mathematics overall, we explore how Singapore’s children perform at the top. Not only this, Singaporean children are in the top OECD ranked nations for ‘Engagement and Selfbelief’. The PISA results speak for themselves.
The methodology and pedagogy in Singapore is not what we might assume. No rote learning, no procedural rehearsal, just excellent teaching based on the work of Jerome Bruner, Vygotsky, Zoltan Dienes, Skemp, and Piaget. It follows the C.P.A. approach and through a series of hands-on challenges linked to evidenced-based theory, the world of ‘problem solving’ simply opens up.
Ban Har will help guide schools develop their own rationale and thinking towards a Maths curriculum that reflects teaching the core concepts of mathematics in achieving high standards and mathematical competency for all, adhering to the vision of CfW as well as addressing Welsh Governments Maths and Numeracy Plan 2023. The introductory and most popular two day course – Using the Singapore approach to problem-solving, strengthen and develop the learning and teaching of Maths and Numeracy as part of your CfW offering. Whether this is your first experience of this approach or whether you have been using this approach for a while, this course will support your next steps as a practitioner. During the course, examples will be shared of how differentiation applies to the Singapore Maths approach.
